“Iraqi panorama”

An intensive  film workshop

The Baghdad International Film Festival (BIFF) is organizing a short film workshop for Iraqi film students. It will take place in Baghdad from September 20^th to 30^th.

The workshop will provide the basics of filmmaking through theoretical and practical exercices. The students have to team up with a partner. Each team of two will have to come up with a 2 to 5’ video (fiction or documentary) at the end, which will be screened in the closing ceremony of the festival.

The workshop is open to all film school students.

Following a selection process, 20 students (10 teams of 2) will be chosen to participate.

The thematic this year is: “how did conflict changed the panorama and the environment of your country?”

How to Apply?

Each team of students has to send in ENGLISH:

1- A ONE PAGE synopsis, describing the story they intend to shoot, the way they will shoot it and the reason why they picked that story – what is the story about? Who will be in the story? Where will it be shot? What will we see overall? Why is it important to tell this story?

- The story has to be related to war and environment. It can be the portrait of a character, an event, a place, a visual poem, etc. that tells something about the Iraqi panorama.

- It can be a documentary or a fiction.

- The stories should be simple and feasible in 3 days of shooting.

- The candidates need to make sure that they have an appropriate team to work with (cameraman, sound man, editor) since the workshop will provide equipment but not technicians.

2- A short letter of motivation giving the reasons why they would like to participate to the workshop.

3- A short biography of the students and previous visual work. At least one visual work is required to be eligible to this workshop (photography, webdoc, short films, documentary).

4- The full name and contacts (e-mail and phone numbers) of the team.

The Deadline

The deadline for application is June 1^st.

Every application sent after this date will be rejected automatically.

The documents need to be sent at this e-mail address :

10 stories will be selected from the whole and the 20 students will be contacted for the 10-day workshop.

The films will have to be ready by the beginning of October.
