Call for Entries: Baghdad International Film Festival (BIFF) 2014

Baghdad International Film Festival (BIFF)  its 6th Edition in 2014

 

The 2014 Baghdad International Film Festival (BIFF) fifth edition accepts free submissions (a completed electronic submission form and two (2) DVD screener copies) starting from next week and through the final deadline of June 1, 2014(postmark date).

 

The Program: 6 official competitions

 Long Fiction ¦ Short Drama ¦ Documentary ¦ Arab Women Filmmakers ¦ Human Rights Images ¦ Iraqi New Horizons.

In addition to the competition sections, selected films from the Guests of Honor countries will be screened in the Panorama section. This section features a selection of films produced in the guest of honor country and hosts seminars and meetings about the country’s cinema, history, culture and filmmakers.

The competition Human Rights Images aims to encourage greater understanding about issues related to justice, security and freedom. BIFF bears witness to human rights violations and provides a forum for courageous individuals on both sides of the lens to empower audiences, showing them that personal commitment can make a difference. BIFF brings to life human rights abuses through storytelling in a way that challenges each individual to empathize with the issues discussed and demand justice for all people.

The Arab Women Filmmakers competition aims to celebrate, encourage and support women filmmakers across the Arab world. BIFF is the first and until now only festival that features such a section as part of its general program. It is essential for Arab women filmmakers to play their role in cinematic, cultural and social life, both regionally and globally, establishing a new tradition that highlights this achievement regardless of age, experience and achievement.

The section Iraqi New Horizons is reserved for Iraqi filmmakers and is especially oriented to projects from students who have graduated from the Faculty and Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces.
